The Auction—the longest continuous fundraiser for the Foodgrains Bank—was held at the farm of Walter and Peggie Wiebe near Osler.
“We’re glad to host it, since it goes for a good cause,” says Walter, adding that the Auction “is a benefit to the whole community.”
In addition to the auction of cattle, agricultural items and services and other goods, the auction also featured a pancake breakfast, lunch, pies, rollkuchen and watermelon.
Founded in 1980 by Dave Buhler and Cornie Derksen and their families, the proceeds from the Auction were originally given to the Mennonite Central Committee Foodbank, the precursor of the Foodgrains Bank.
Today the Auction is sponsored by Osler Mission Chapel, Osler Mennonite Church, Neulange Mennonite Church, Bergthaler Mennonite Church and the Osler Old Colony Church.
