The grade-nine students from Tusarvik School in Repulse Bay, Nunavut are no strangers in the kitchen. Throughout the year they made and sold baked goods to raise money for extra-curricular activities. They even cooked lunch for the community’s elders.
On Friday March 18th, however, the students were baking with a special end in mind – to help people around the world who don’t have enough to eat. In all, the class of 13 students raised close to $400, which they donated to Canadian Foodgrains Bank.
“It is the Inuit way to share,” says Pauline Kridluar, a grade nine student who helped to bake and sell the goods. “Cooking today was like that.”
