This
project, which is part of a larger Caritas International Zimabwe appeal, aims
to provide a wet ration supplementary feeding to children in schools and early
childhood learning centres and food hampers to teachers and other staff, to
provide an incentive for them to return to work and as a result provide an
indirect assistance to the education sector. This will be in addition to the
other efforts that responsible authorities are working on to improve the
education sector. The beneficiaries of this program will be 1,652 children
under the age of 5 attending 28 early childhood centres in Gokwe, Chinhoyi and
Mutare and 13,600 primary school children attending 34 beneficiary schools in
Masvingo. A total of 622 staff from the 62 schools and centres will be
supported. The supplementary feedings plan to utilize 415 tonnes of corn soy blend,
61 tonnes of corn, 9 tonnes of pulses and 4 tonnes of oil.
