Burkina Faso, Relief Operation - Flood Victims, #2086-02

Lead Member: Christian & Missionary Alliance
Country: Burkina Faso
Implementing Partners: CAMA Services/ACCEDES
Food/Inputs: 200 MT Maize, 10 MT Oil & 4.5 Salt
Budget: $126,297
Time Period: June 2008 – August 2008

The worst flooding in recent memory hit Burkina Faso last year. Heavy rains in July 2007 swelled rivers and inundated valleys throughout the country. Thousands of hectares of standing crops were destroyed and thousands of homes and granaries collapsed. Between November 2007 and January 2008 CAMA Services/ACCEDES responded with food relief for 1,000 flood-affected farming families (#2086-01).

This second project phase is providing an additional two months of food relief in June and July 2008 to the same 1,000 households in the regions of Houet and “Boucle du Mouhoun”. This provision of food will assist these farming families during the farming season. The first harvest should be available during the month of August to help carry them forward.
