Nicaragua, Development and Management, # 1990-03 (Year 3 of 3)

Lead Member: Presbyterian World Service & Development
Country: Nicaragua
Implementing Partners: CEPAD
File Number: 1990-03
Budget: $96,400
Time Period: January 2008- December 2008

This is year three of a three year project from CEPAD. This project will be carried out by our implementing partner CEPAD in the densely populated regions of Wiwilí-Jinotega, Carazo and Matagalpa, Nicaragua. These regions are prone to chronic poverty and malnourishment, and suffer severe environmental degradation which has further threatened the food security of its people.  This project aims to promote the responsible use of natural resources and to improve levels of production and household food security through the transfer of organic technology by trained community agricultural promoters. The leaders of the Community Development Committees (CDC) from each community will, through community assemblies, select 38 (26 males & 12 females) agricultural promoters who will be responsible to train 156 community members in agricultural techniques. This model is based on the biblical model of discipleship where those with skills and information are mentors to others.
