This is year four of a five year program from SOYNICA. SOYNICA has been working in Madriz and Nueva Segovia in northern Nicaragua for many years. The region has some of the poorest people in the country and suffer from chronic poverty. SOYNICA’s focus is on improving food security and nutrition. Their program takes a multi-faceted approach such as improvement of agricultural practices, micro-enterprise schemes, supplementary nutrition, health and nutrition education, and dietary diversification. This program will benefit 400 rural families - extremely poor peasant families living in regions that produce little and are not a priority for the government. This project aims to improve food production; increase in the capacity of targeted families and improve nutrition levels by training 400 peasant families in nutritional education and illness prevention techniques.
