Christian Reformed World Relief Committee is supporting their partner, Interfaith League Against Poverty, with an initial emergency response to widespread flooding. The province of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa is one of several provinces affected by intense flashfloods due to heavy rains that started from July 21, 2010. Across Pakistan millions of people have lost their homes and livelihoods. Crops have been destroyed. Many roads and bridges have been damaged. For an initial emergency response, Interfaith League Against Poverty is providing two months of food packages to 8,000 families in the districts of Nowshara and Charsadda in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province. The project will utilize 1,280 tonnes of wheat flour, 640 tonnes of rice, 128 tonnes of pulses, 72 tonnes of oil, 64 tonnes of sugar, 13 tonnes of salt and 6 tonnes of tea. With funding from other donors, non-food relief items will also be provided to these same families. A longer-term follow-up response is expected after this initial two month emergency phase.
