Presbyterian World Service & Development is supporting their partner, Church World Service, with an initial emergency response to widespread flooding. Heavy rains started in Pakistan from July 21, 2010, causing flash flooding. To date millions of people across the country have lost their homes and livelihoods. Crops have been destroyed. Many roads and bridges have been damaged. This initial emergency response is providing two months of food packages to 4,200 families in the district of Naseerabad, Balochistan province. The project will utilize 672 tonnes of wheat flour, 336 tonnes of rice, 67 tonnes of pulses, 38 tonnes of oil, 34 tonnes of sugar, 7 tonnes of salt and 3 tonnes of tea. With support from many international donors, Church World Service is responding with shelter, food and non-food items across many districts and several provinces. A longer-term follow-up response is expected after this initial emergency phase.
