Mennonite Central Committee Canada is supporting Medair with a project in the Waras District of Afghanistan which has been affected by rain induced disasters including landslides, flash floods and loss of livelihoods (houses, land, livestock and harvest). A Medair rapid assessment showed extensive destruction of the local farm system in a confined region caused by floods and mudslides. This project will support 298 direct and 2,486 indirect people affected by this disaster with cash for work activities to avoid the need to fall back on destructive coping mechanisms. The project activities will rehabilitate agricultural and infrastructure assets.
