United Church of Canada is continuing to support Christian Care Zimbabwe with a program to alleviate short-term food insecurity during the most critical planting season and pre-harvest period for the most vulnerable people in 8 wards of Gutu district in Masvingo province and 6 wards of Chimanimani district in Manicaland Province. These districts are characterized by unreliable rainfall patterns, poor sandy soil and are prone to recurrent drought cycles. Utilizing 4,598 tonnes of maize, 889 tonnes of beans, 253 tonnes of corn soy blend and 276 tonnes of oil, Christian Care will provide food rations for seven months for 67,760 of the most vulnerable individuals affected by the political/economic instability and poor harvests.
