Canadian Catholic Organization for Development and Peace is supporting their partner, The Ethiopian Catholic Church, in providing food aid for a period of six months to the flood affected farming communities in Metta and Gorogutu woreda of eastern Hararghe zone of Oromia Regional State. The assistance will provide 373.5 tonnes of sorghum, 37 tonnes of pulses and 12.5 tonnes of oil. A total of 4,150 beneficiaries will benefit from the food aid provision during the six month period. Food insecurity among vulnerable families will be reduced through this project by ensuring adequate short-term food availability, helping families recover their most basic livelihood coping mechanisms, and reducing the risks of preventable diseases, which have been exacerbated by the acute shortage of food. The food assistance resources requested will be used to fill a gap in food availability for affected vulnerable families until new basic grain and other crops are harvested.
