Connection to the Foodgrains Bank
When you give, your contribution can be credited to The Primate’s World Relief and Development Fund account. PWRDF determines how those funds, and any CIDA matching funds, will be used.
PWRDF receives requests for food aid or food security projects from its overseas partners. Each request is reviewed to ensure the food and support provided will improve the lives of the people receiving the assistance - in both the short and long terms.
Once planning is complete (including details to ensure safe and reliable delivery), Canadian Foodgrains Bank arranges the purchase and shipping of the food. PWRDF works together with other Foodgrains Bank church members on projects as appropriate.
The Primate’s World Relief and Development Fund has been a member of the Canadian Foodgrains Bank since 2007.
The Primate’s World Relief Fund was created by the General Synod of the Anglican Church of Canada in 1959 in response to the human tragedy of the Springhill Mine disaster in 1958. Anglicans in Canada recognized the need for an efficient mechanism to answer the needs of those in emergency situations.
In 1969, the word development was added to the name to reflect our commitment to addressing short and long-term development needs, working in partnership and the engagement of Anglican constituents in the work.
50 years later, PWRDF is the Anglican Church of Canada’s agency for sustainable development, relief, refugees, and global justice. Financial and human resources are made available to support partners’ initiatives, to respond to emergencies, to protect refugees and to promote knowledgeable actions of solidarity in Canada and around the world.
