Two friends leaving Jerusalem after the crucifixion walk with a stranger on the road. As evening falls, they invite the stranger to stay with them. As they break bread together, they recognize the living Christ is with them (Luke 24:35). How is Jesus known to us today in the breaking of our daily bread?

Food plays a central part in our celebrations of culture, family, community and of our faith. But for something so integral to our lives, something is amiss. All is not right at our collective table, and it is time to start talking about it together. Too many people are hungry in the midst of abundance. Our farmers are struggling. Rural communities are failing and the land is groaning.

This study series is an opportunity to celebrate, share and reflect critically on our personal and collective food ways (the ways we grow, harvest, process, transport, share, recycle and think about food.)

This congregational resource raises two related questions:
• What are the core faith dimensions of the food and agriculture issues before us today?
• Can reflecting deeply on food and agriculture issues deepen our faith?

The goal of this resource is to engage people (older teens and adults) in questions of faith, food and agriculture. The resource does not propose answers; rather it proposes an open-ended exploration of issues and our faith. It is hoped that this exploration will happen in a circle of conversation and
study as well as in reflection on the patterns and practices of our daily lives.
