1:1 Match Announced by Canadian Government on Donations to Pakistan Relief

Tuesday, August 24, 2010

Early this week the Canadian government announced that it would match funds donated to Pakistan relief efforts.  For every dollar donated to the Foodgrains Bank and designated to Pakistan flood relief, the government has promised to set aside a dollar to be used to help those affected by the flooding.  This match is in addition to the 4:1 Canadian International Development Agency match that many Foodgrains Bank programs are eligible for.

According to our partners on the ground, the death toll is up to 2000 people and thousands more continue to be affected every day.

The ACT alliance reports that “As the disaster worsens and the threats to lives, land, and livelihoods continue to increase, the importance of quality and accountability emerges.”  Canadian Foodgrains Bank is working through well established partners who have worked in the area for many years.

In fact, Canadian Foodgrains Bank is increasing the number of food kits that are being distributed.  Now 12,200 families, approximately 97,600 individuals, will receive two months worth of full food rations including wheat flour, rice, lentils and oil.
