Make A Difference Sale

The Fraser Valley – or God’s Country – as Clarence Tuin, who together with his wife, Jenny serves as voluntary coordinator for Canadian Foodgrains Bank in British Columbia calls it, is picturesque enough to be a jigsaw puzzle.  And the beauty of the lush valley, skirted by snow-capped peaks, is more than skin deep. For ten years, Abbotsford has been home to the annual Make a Difference Sale – which has raised well over a million dollars to help end hunger around the world.“

For the last decade, the Tuins, along with a slew of volunteers, have been fitting the pieces together for the annual Make A Difference Sale, which has raised well over $1 million for the Foodgrains Bank. Over $115,000 of that total came in March 24, at the tenth anniversary sale.

“It’s quite the event,” says Clarence.  “We have strong support from the community, and people generously donate cattle and other items to be auctioned off.”

A key part of the fundraising puzzle is the McClary Stockyard, which hosts the auction free of charge. David McClary, who owns the yard with his mother Sheila and brother Jono, even acted as the auctioneer for much of the six-or-so hours of bidding on the 24th.  Read the full Story...
