In Exile for a While
This activity offers youth an experience they won't soon forget. "In Exile for a While" is a role playing simulation that re-creates the daily experiences of refugees. "In Exile…" was developed by Canadian Foodgrains Bank in conjunction with the Canadian Red Cross and the Manitoba Interfaith Immigration Council.
Participants "In Exile…" experience first hand, the emotions associated with being expelled from home, living in strange surroundings with few comforts, and eating unfamiliar food. This hard-hitting simulation informs and inspires youth to respond what happens to hundreds of thousands of people around the world by giving them a taste of life as a refugee.
"In Exile…" can be organized by any church, school or community group. Some faith groups have turned their church basements into mock refugee camps simply by using tents and props. Others have turned the experience into an outdoor activity at a nearby park or farm. This event is flexible and can be tailored to fit a half day or a whole weekend. It can be adapted to accommodate five or 50 people.
The "In Exile…" organizers kit includes:

- Complete instructions on how to organize your own event.
