2011 Photo Credit: Frank SpanglerOver 12 million people in the horn of Africa do not have access to adequate food as a result of drought, high food prices, and insecurity. Parts of Somalia have been defined as a famine, a term which is reserved for the most extreme cases of humanitarian catastrophe.
These photos, taken by Frank Spangler in Somalia, depict the drought which has forced so many Somalis to leave their homes. Frank is currently in East Africa and travelled to Somalia to visit projects that ADRA is supporting in the area. The projects depicted in these images are part of ADRA's response in the horn of Africa and are not funded through Canadian Foodgrains Bank. The Foodgrains Bank is currently not supporting any projects in Somalia.
Canadian Foodgrains Bank is responding to the food crisis in Ethiopia and Kenya, supporting $10.5 million worth of projects which are being carried out through our member agencies and their partners on the ground. Altogether these efforts will provide food to over 285,000 people in need. This response is financially supported by the Canadian International Development Agency.
